MT. PLEASANT, IA — After a strong first day at the CAC Invitational, LCU Volleyball (6-16) capped off their weekend trip to Iowa with two more wins against Crowley's Ridge College (6-10) and Haskell Indian Nations University (3-17) on Saturday, October 9.

In match one, Crowley's Ridge took the advantage early, winning the set 25-21. Luckily, the Pioneers' luck quickly ran out, as LCU took the next three sets (25-15, 25-19, and 25-20) to win the match.

It was a dominant offensive performance by the Lady Red Lions, who finished with 22 more kills than Crowley's Ridge (52-30). Newcomer Jocelyn Hall (FR/Cisne, IL) had a career day, leading her team with 15 kills. Leigh Cleggett (SO/Kankakee, IL) recorded 22 assists.

LCU's final match of the invitational was against the Haskell Fighting Indians; a team that went blow-for-blow with the Red Lions across five sets.

LCU started strong, winning the first two sets, however, Haskell would not go down without a fight. HINU took sets three and four, tying the match.

Despite the shift in momentum, the Red Lions kept their composure. In the fifth set, LCU hit 10 of their 67 kills on their way to a 15-10 win and a perfect, 4-0 weekend.

Three Red Lions hit double-digit numbers for kills. Jordan Price (SR/Fulton, IL) had 20, Phoebe Olden (SO/Groveland, IL) recorded 18, and Tracey Balagna (SO/Havana, IL) finished with 10. Cleggett made it all possible, recording a monstrous 35 assists.

Defensively, Olden [28], Karis Hortin (SR/Albion, IL) [20], Mikayla Fultz (SR/Mattoon, IL) [16], and Price [13] all recorded plenty of digs.

After a tough start to the season, the Red Lions hit their stride just in time for conference play, going undefeated against CAC opponents over the weekend.

LCU will be back on the road Wednesday, October 13, to take on Trinity International University (11-11). That game will begin at 6:00 CDT.
