MT. PLEASANT, IA — LCU Volleyball (6-16) got its first taste of conference action over the weekend at the Continental Athletic Conference Invitational, played at Iowa Wesleyan University. Day one of the event featured a doubleheader for LCU as they took on Cottey College (12-13) and Iowa Wesleyan University (1-20). 


LCU opened the day with a match against Cottey College. The Red Lions were dominant early on, outscoring the Comets in the first two sets by a margin of 50-30. 


Although the Comets found some momentum in the third set, winning 25-13, LCU prevailed in the match after a thrilling 26-24 victory in game four. 


The Lady Red Lions recorded 53 total kills, of which Phoebe Olden (SO/Groveland, IL) recorded 20. Jordan Price (SR/Fulton, IL) got in on the fun as well, chipping in 12 kills of her own. Red Lion setters Leigh Cleggett (SO/Kankakee, IL) and Karissa Bowman (FR/Lincoln, IL) recorded 29 and 12 assists respectively. 


During their second match of the day against Iowa Wesleyan University, LCU was in control from the opening serve. 


The visiting team outscored the Tigers 75-55, rolling past IWU for a 3-0 sweep. Three Red Lions recorded double-digit digs; Price finished with 13 while Karis Hortin (SR/Albion, IL) and Olden chipped in 12 apiece. Cleggett netted 23 assists. 


LCU went 2-0 on the day, setting the tone for the rest of their impressive CAC Invitational appearance.
